Motivation

Demand

Higher education institutions should educate their students according to modern needs and demands from the professional market

Costs

Expensive terrestrial laser scanners are not available or not up-to-date in many higher educational institutions

Application

The virtual scanner enables teachers and students to learn the process of terrestrial laser scanning without having the need for a real instrument

Demo

Key features

Gaming environment

Simulator is developed within Unreal Engine and provides game-based learning experience

Scanning visualization

Scanning process is visualized in real time with intensity and noise simulation according to scanner specification

Station management

Specifying settings for each scan station

Target management

Several types of targets are available as well as targetless mode

Point cloud export

Point clouds can be exported in common formats for further processing in external software

Real scanner interface

Emulation of commercially available instruments with realistic user interfaces
